Decoration plate and side trophies from the description of the entrance in the Hague of William III (Willem III) with his wife Mary II of England on February 5, 1691. Three different plates were employed along with a fourth completing the top part of the folio with a portrait of the king in a medal surrounded by two allegorical figures. The central and larger plate shows a crowded square with the procession headed by the king and the wife. On the medals on trophies on the left: FEL. TEMP. REPARATIO; AMYNTA; NEP. RED; on the trophies on the right: ADVENTUS AUGUST.; CONCORDIA AUG.; UBIQUE VICTOR. l Etching on paper; tot. 151 x 274 mm. On thicker cardboard, tiny margins, attached to a wide cardboard. PH4P

Plate from the one of the editions of Jan van Westerhoven's 'Den schepper verheerlykt in de schepselen, of verhandeling van alle geschapene dingen, voorgesteld in zeven zaamenspraaken, onder zomerse wandelingen, dienende wyders tot lof van Haarlems vermaakelyken landsdouwen' published between 1685 and 1771. This print is the lower part of a larger folio. In the plate three men in a landscape - Heemsetede, in the outskirts of Haarlem - and in the foreground cattle and sheeps. Count William III passes judgement on the sheriff of South Holland, 1336 [set of seven prints]
The complete scene consists of a large print in the middle (here missing - nr.6) and six prints around it, numbered from 1 to 7. Signed on the first print, below within margin: 'CJVisscher excudebat' (CJV interlaced). The first plate shows the sheriff trying to buy the cow from a farmer: on the right the sheriff with a bag of money and on the left the farmer and his family. In the background the cow being milked by the wife of the farmer. The second plate shows the sheriff leaving with the cow that has been exchanged with another; on the background the family witnesses the scene helplessly. Aftekening der Schilderye, op 't Stadhuis te Dordrecht geplaatst, ter gedagtenisse van de Overwinning by Chattam, in 't Jaar 1667, onder 't beleid van KORNELIS DE WIT. Rurwaard van Putten.
Glorification of Cornelis de Witt: the commander in armour, holding a commandostaf, is represented on the left, being crowned with laurel by flying putti while a Fame is blowing a trumpet. On the background the trip to Chatham (June 1667). On the left also a cornucopia with symbols of the prosperity of land and wealth. This illustration was used in Jan Wagenaar's "Vaderlandsche historie", published in Amsterdam between 1749-1759, in 21 volumes. This pint belongs to vol. XIII, p. 478. The original painting in the town hall of Dordrecht was destroyed in 1672, soon after the horrifying death of the de Witt brothes. Signed lower right corner: "S.Fokke fec"; on the left corner: "A. Eigentliche Abbildung der Schantzen Caloo, Verbroek, und Feuerschen und wie solche von den Holländern befestigt und wie sie von den Spanischen wieder daraus geschlagen worden. Anno 1638.
The whole engraving consists of two superimposed separate views. On the top is a battle on the banks of the Scheldt, the right is a church; in the shallow water drift some sailing boats and many drowning soldiers. The bottom image is drawn in the form of a map with a view on the Scheldt; here are shown fortifications and many fighting soldiers. On the bottom of the pictures is the legend: 1-18. In 1638 Cardinal Infante Ferdinand, governor of the Spanish Netherlands, fought successfully against the Dutch and French armies. Finally, he was able to expel the invaders from the land. The Dutch built some hills around the Scheldt. In the battle which sparked by an attack of the Spaniards against these buildings, many soldiers were drowned, but the hills were finally able to be occupied by the Spaniards. Personificaiton of Holland between Mars and Mercury
Frontispiece to the second volume of the History of Holland by J. Le Clerc, published in three volumes in 1730 (Geschiedenissen der Vereenigde Nederlanden). The personification of Holland is sitting holding arrows in her hands, on the left Mars and on the right Mercury. A lion is lying under the woman. On a drape hanging towards the lower part of the composition the title reads:'GESCHIEDENISSEN / DER / VEREENIGDE NEDERLANDEN / DOOR / MR. JEAN LE CLERC. / TOM II.'
